Like any good origin story, Helios Lenses came about to solve a fundamental problem. We want to impact the relationship people have with their eyewear.
Prescription eyewear, like much of the eyewear industry, is overpriced and burdened with overly complicated ways of correcting our vision.
We are here to disrupt this status quo by deliver simple, frictionless solutions to our everyday eyewear struggles, and we just so happen to be starting with sunglasses.
How big a problem is this?
Eyewear is a $150 Billion a year industry, covering everything from sunglasses and frames to prescription lenses and contact lenses. And it's growing at about 10% per year!
There's good reason for it too, over 60% of the adult population wear corrective eyewear. That's over 4 Billion people. It is undoubtedly an evergreen industry. Myopia is an every growing issue, and now becoming an alarming issue among children.
How expensive a problem is this?
Is it just us, or does eyewear of all kind seem to just get more and more expensive as the years go by? The markup on eyewear frames is typically in the 400-1000% range! Not a surprise as to why there are so many brands and new ones popping up on a daily basis. A large share of the industry is also owned by just one company.
Did you know about the boogie man?
"New problems" are cropping up that so desperately need solutions. Like the blue light that comes out of our devices, and require blue light filtering lenses to save us from Aged Macular Degeneration (AMD), retina damage, cataracts and other problems.
The fact remains, there has been little innovation over the past few decades that has dramatically changed the eyewear industry. It's been a matter of evolution, and not revolution.
